Scott is a ceramic artist producing a constantly evolving range of functional objects. Now living in Heretaunga, Aotearoa New Zealand, Scott was born in Devon, England.

In 2017 Scott spent 3 months as assistant to potter and woodkiln builder Masakazu Kusakabe in Fukushima prefecture, Japan. In 2018 he completed Otago Polytechnic’s Diploma of Ceramic Art.

‘I am inspired by the tactile qualities of Japanese and Korean ceramics. The challenge for me is to create something elegant and sophisticated from unrefined materials.

‘I make my own clay mixes from bought and local clays, with fine pumice, sands or stone to open the clay’s texture. Most of my work is fired in a gas kiln but I also enjoy participating in wood firings when opportunities arise.’

Scott sometimes collaborates with painter Yasmin Dubrau, some of these works are available in the shop under Collaborations.
